Film screening not to be missed!

"This we know. The earth does not belong to us, we belong to the earth.
This we know. All things are connected like the blood that unites one family.
All things are connected.
Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons and daughters of the earth.
We did not weave the web of life, we are merely strands in it.
Whatever we do to the web we do to ourselves."

- The "we" version of the excerpt from Si'ahl's (Chief Seattle) famous speech from 1854

Shooting Moose?

Your tax dollars are sponsoring a TV program about shooting moose!

Yes you just read correctly! NSW taxpayers are helping to finance a TV program on how to shoot a moose and other exotic animals. Read the full story:

Write to the Minister for Primary Industries by email and complain:

Some points you could raise:

> The Game Council using tax payer money to sponsor a TV program is appalling.
> This is another example of the Game Council’s poor governance.
> With the Game Council promoting NSW as the ‘place to hunt' through TV sponsorhip, we are increasing the number of people coming in to shoot recreationally over large spaces with little or no supervision in 77 of our national parks.
> This initiative by the Game Council tarnishes the NSW National Parks brand that has taken over 50 years to build.
> I do not believe this is a wise way to spend tax payer dollars.
> Despite the diminished role the Game Council will play in managing the Supplementary Pest Control Program, I was alarmed to see that the Game Council has received a 60% increase in funding in this week's State budget. I do not think the Game Council should be given more of my money to waste on things like sponsoring TV programs.
> The Game Council is an under-performing agency that struggles to keep its own staff following basic hunting protocols. It has also failed to manage compliance issues efficiently, to be self-funding, or to report any impact what so ever on any single pest animal species from hunting in our State Forests.

At first glance the Ord Valley in Kunanurra looks like the perfect place to farm; lots of sunshine and plenty of water. Kate Innes, who grew up in the region, has made this beautiful and personal story about the challenges of making a living from farming in the Valley.

A Greens Message

An important message from Liz....

Election debates should be about issues that really matter. I'm worried that with all the talk between Rudd and Abbott about debates, they're not going to discuss the issues that matter to me.

Below is a message Greens Deputy Leader and Member for Melbourne Adam Bandt asked me to pass along.I hope you'll join me to support the campaign to get Christine Milne into the leader's debates this election:

From global warming to compassion for refugees, from marriage equality to protecting national parks, you and thousands more have joined with us to take action on the issues that matter most.

Now Kevin Rudd is challenging Tony Abbott to debates that ignore these issues, and both old parties are trying to keep the Greens out.

This campaign is at risk of becoming a well-funded slanging match between the old parties while the big issues that matter, and the millions of Australians who care about them, get ignored.

That's why we need Australian Greens Leader Christine Milne in the televised leader's debates.

As part of the agreement to form government, the Greens together with the Independent MPs asked Labor to establish a Leader's Debate Commission. The role of the commission would be to set the dates and structure of debates during elections. They never fulfilled this commitment.

The Greens took action by introducing new legislation that would ensure at least three debates between registered party leaders - but we can only secure these debates with your support.

Australians deserve to hear from the Greens Leader Christine Milne in the debates thiselection.

More than 1.6 million Australians voted Green at the last election, and the Greens have played a crucial role in this parliament. Because of the Greens, Australia now has a price on pollution and a clean energy fund, kids can access free dental care as part of Medicare and marriage equality is closer than it has ever been.

Leader's debates are critical for voters to hear about each party's priorities for Australia's future.

Please add your name to the call for Christine Milne to be part of the leader's debates.

P.S. I want Australian politics to be better, not go back to the old slogan-v-slogan ways.

Let's get a real thinker into the debates: Christine Milne.
